Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, friends and readers!:)

Sunday, December 15, 2013

For supernatural detectives Thulu and La Fi, “normal” is a relative term. La Fi is a medium, Thulu is a finder, and their usual clients are already dead.
But when their friend Reo is shot, and a group of stranded angels show up at their house for help to find a missing child, things are striking too close to home.
And now the portals that let the magical races return to Earth have started opening on their own.
With trips off-world, a kidnapped psychic and changes to their own abilities, Thulu and La Fi are hit with a lot more than they usually handle. Of course, their magical friends are there to help, but even they may not be enough to save an increasingly unstable Earth.
Portals is the sequel to Relics and is Book 2 in The Thulukan Chronicles.
After a successful career being other people, and later teaching others the many tricks of that trade, Maer Wilson has decided to be herself for a while. Turns out she's a writer. She's always loved stories, especially fantasy, mystery and sci fi. Maer was born in the Year of the Dragon and has a dragon-themed room in her home, but sadly no dragons in the back yard. When she's not writing, Maer plays online video games, teaches college and reads. She also co-hosts the literary podcast, MythBehaving and writes for two gaming fansites. Maer lives in the high desert of Southern Nevada with her two dogs, a chihuahua and a poodle. Portals is Book 2 in The Thulukan Chronicles. You can find all books and novelettes in The Thulukan Chronicles at Amazon. You can visit Maer’s website at http://maerwilson.com/.

“Ghost Memory” (A Thulukan Chronicles Story, #1)

“Unwanted Ghost” (A Thulukan Chronicles Story, #2)
Excerpt from Portals
That night Parker had popped in to wake us at two in the morning to tell us our best friend, Reo, had been shot. The young ghost was distraught and panicked.
“They're on the back porch! You have to go help.”
“Where is he?” I asked groggily, as I jumped out of bed.
Thulu was instantly awake beside me, although he didn’t seem any more alert than I did.
“Back porch.” Parker enunciated each word in slight exasperation. “Go, please!”
Thulu looked at me, and I told him what Parker had said. Thulu can read lips, but even with a night light the room was too dark.
Thulu threw off the sheet and we both ran from the room. I was briefly glad we’d been wearing PJs.
Heart pounding, I took a few precious seconds to check on our three year old son, Carter. His night light showed him blissfully unaware of anything. Whatever happy dreams he was having made him smile slightly in his sleep. I sighed in relief that he wasn’t having another of his nightmares.
Downstairs, Thulu had turned on the kitchen and porch lights. In spite of the panic moments before, none of the three people on the porch seemed frantic when I joined them.
Thulu looked relieved, Reo was on the floor, but seemed stoic, and Sloane knelt beside him, brow furrowed only slightly in concentration as he dealt with the wound.
My heart rate slowed down and my own fear started to slowly dissipate. My heart gradually dropped from my throat back to its accustomed place in my chest. Still my hands were shaking, and I felt the slight chill from outside. The porch was screened in, and the late August day had been hot, but the night brought a cool breeze that made its way along my arms.
The scent of flowers from the backyard didn’t quite mask the smell of the blood that pooled on the porch floor around Reo. Sloane, his partner and an elf, had already removed Reo’s jacket and shirt. A bullet lay on the floor, and I could see the shoulder wound was already healing and closing up. In a few moments, only the blood would remain as evidence that he’d been shot.
Reo's face was white. The strain showed around his brown eyes and his handsome face had the sheen of sweat on it.  His short brown hair that was usually spiked, lay damp and flat against his head, but he gave me a shaky smile.
“Bastard ruined my favorite jacket.”

Cover Reveal! Shattered Veil by Tracy E. Banghart (The Diatous Wars #1)

Today I have the pleasure of helping reveal the cover of Tracy E. Banghart's SHATTERED VEIL, a New Adult Science Fiction novel that will seriously knock your socks off. I loved this book! You will too so make sure to add it on Goodreads!

Without further ado...

When everything that defines you is stripped away, who do you become?

War has come to Atalanta, infecting its quiet villages and lush woodlands, igniting whispered worries in its glittering capitol.
All across the dominion, young men are being Selected for Military and sent to the front lines…and eighteen-year-old Aris Haan’s childhood sweetheart is one of them.

Pyralis Nekkos, Atalanta’s leader, has kept the truth from his people, that their dominion will fall…and much sooner than anyone could guess.
Galena Vadim, his reluctant ally, wishes she could forget their shared past...until her future seems to depend on it.

And for the boy she loves, Aris, a talented wingjet pilot, will give up everything - her home, her name, even her face...
...only to become the key to her dominion's survival.

Tracy E. Banghart is a cheesy movie–loving, fantasy football–playing (go Ravens!), globe-trotting Army wife who began “practicing” her craft at the age of five, when she wrote her first story. She loves visiting the international friends she met while pursuing her MA in Publishing and spends a portion of every summer at her family’s cabin in Canada, where she finds inspiration and lots of time to relax on the dock. She lives with her husband, son, two lazy dogs and one ornery cat. When not writing or spending time with her family, she is on a mission to bake the perfect cupcake.

Epilepsy Awareness Month! (A Cause Near and Dear to Me)

Hey all! November is Epilepsy Awareness Month, a cause that is near and dear to me. Epilepsy is one of the most common major chronic medical conditions, but also one of the ones that is least understood in the medical community, though the epilepsy community is working hard to change that.

As many of you know, my oldest son was diagnosed a few years ago with epilepsy. Though it hasn’t been the easiest time for him, I am happy to report, thanks to his wonderful doctors and a combination of medications, he has been seizure free for two years now, a blessing we are completely grateful for each day we get it and one that we certainly don’t take for granted as we know it can change at any time. Like many dealing with epilepsy, we continue to battle and fight against this silent disease and its stigmas, side effects and the hindrances epilepsy creates for those who suffer with it. But, as many in the epilepsy community say, we continue to live by the mantra: “I have epilepsy, but epilepsy doesn’t have me!”

To raise awareness and money for this very important-to-me cause, I am pledging to donate a portion of my proceeds for every copy of my novel, SECOND VERSE, sold during the month of November. That includes hardcover, paperback and ebook.

A portion of every single book sale will go to The National Epilepsy Foundation and the KARE Foundation. Donations will directly fund epilepsy research, and will also provide various aid for children in the epilepsy community including: granting wishes and providing scholarships for kids with epilepsy to attend safe camps.

Thanks all for reading a tiny bit about our journey with epilepsy. Just you reading this post provides awareness and for that I am so very grateful for your time.

If you haven’t read SECOND VERSE yet, and want to, or if you’re already holiday shopping, and want to buy during November to have a portion of it donated to this cause, feel free to order from your retailer of choice.

Any purchase, from anywhere, counts! Here are just a few places where it is available:

If you want a signed copy, you can contact the folks at WORDS BOOKSTORE. They have some signed copies on hand, but being that it is my local bookstore, I can stop by and personalize or sign copies for anyone who orders through them! If you want a signed copy, or something specific in the personalization, just include instructions in the notes section of your order.
Thanks for reading friends, and learning a little more about this disorder that affects so many people every day.

SECOND VERSE Book Launch Recap!

The SECOND VERSE Book Launch was last night at WORDS Bookstore in Maplewood. What an amazingly fun night! I am so incredibly grateful for the support for this event. We had about 60 people there. (Holy wow!) Here are a few pics of the event. I'll add more as I get them. I know I took pics with a lot of people, hopefully copies of those will trickle in. Much of the night was a whirlwind, but it was so much fun! The bookstore ran out of books - yay! Oh, and signing books is pretty much the most fun thing ever, I think.:)

What's a party without cupcakes?

Yummy! Never mind that the icing turned people's teeth purple!

My mommy and I! Yes, she is wearing a super cool Second Verse tee shirt. Isn't it awesome? I wish I got a picture of the back, which is even cooler. Also, I must admit, I am not that tall. I was wearing gigantic heels. I am giggling over the fact that I actually look tall in these pictures.

My dear writing friend Shveta, along with my super nice editor, Tracy, had an absolutely fantastic purse made out of my book! It doesn't just LOOK like my book, it is actually made out of my book. The internet is full of such fun and creative gifts.

Me and Jonah, the owner of WORDS Bookstore. He's holding my book and I'm holding my book purse! Seriously, anyone local, check out this bookstore, they are the best bookstore around!

Me reading from my book. What a fun and surreal moment.

Upstairs in the bookstore, where the signing took place.

With my dear friend, Shveta.

How cute is this bookstore?

Signing! So much fun.

Thanks all for stopping by my blog!

Also, the SECOND VERSE Kindle edition is now live, for those that have been asking!:)

Kirkus Review for Second Verse!

Hey blog friends, hope everyone out there is doing well and having an awesome summer.

I just got an email that started my weekend off in a great way. A Kirkus review for SECOND VERSE! I can't share the whole thing yet, but here's a sneak peek:

“A supernatural murder mystery with a love interest rooted in the past and present. ... A fast-paced thriller best read with the lights on.” Kirkus

Monday, March 18, 2013

It's cover reveal day!

Isn't it pretty? I can’t stop staring at it!

Also, don’t forget to enter my giveaway contest over at Me, My Shelf and I (link down below at the end of the post) – I’m giving away signed ARCs, signed bookmarks and an Amazon gift card (all open internationally). Good luck!

Bad things come in threes. In Shady Springs, that includes murder.
Murder NowLange Crawford’s move to Shady Springs, Pennsylvania, lands her a group of awesome friends, a major crush on songwriter Vaughn, and life in a haunted, 200-year-old farmhouse. It also brings The Hunt: an infamous murder mystery festival where students solve a fake, gruesome murder scheme during the week of Halloween. Well, supposedly fake.

Murder Then
Weeks before The Hunt, Lange and her friends hold a séance in the farmhouse’s eerie barn. When a voice rushes through, whispering haunting words that only she and Vaughn can hear, Lange realizes it's begging for help. The mysterious voice leads Lange and Vaughn to uncover letters and photos left behind by a murdered girl, Ginny, and they become obsessed with her story and the horrifying threats that led to her murder.
Murder Yet to Come
But someone doesn’t like their snooping, and Lange and Vaughn begin receiving the same threats that Ginny once did. The mysterious words from the barn become crucial to figuring out Ginny's past and their own, and how closely the two are connected. They must work fast to uncover the truth or risk finding out if history really does repeat itself.

Blurbs, blurbs, blurbs!

Hiya blog friends!

I got the go ahead to share my blurbs, so here goes! I’m amazed and humbled by the nice things writers I admire have had to say about my book. Yay! (Also, if you want to add it on Goodreads, click here. )

"Part mysterious ghost story and part thriller, Second Verse's twists will keep you riveted. The intense connection between Lange and Vaughn is electric. A truly original debut." Cindy Pon, author of Silver Phoenix and Fury of the Phoenix

"Deliciously creepy and hauntingly beautiful, Second Verse satisfied my urge for both thrills and romance, all in one exciting package. Just be warned: extreme fear of the dark--and barns--might occur as a result of reading." Debra Driza, author of MILA 2.0

“A beautifully written story of love and loss that weaves past and present into a haunting tale that will keep you guessing until the final pages.” Dawn Rae Miller, author of the Sensitives Trilogy & Crushed

So there they are. Awesome, right? Every time I read them, I can’t get the big smile off my face!

Take care, friends. Happy reading and writing!

Hey friends!

Tracy E. Banghart's BY BLOOD came out this week and she's giving away a free copy here, on my blog! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment. Easy peasy. Deadline is next Thursday, 2/28. Winner will be chosen at random by Tracey.

For 17-year-old Emma Wong, spending a summer in England shouldbe a dream come true. Gorgeous scenery? Check. Lots of hot guys with accents? Yes, please.

Spending two months with her mom, Dr. Mike (don’tcall him her stepdad), and their pooping, puking infant son? Not what she had in mind. It’s a disaster even her favorite cherry red leather jacket can’t fix (leather and spit-up so do not mix).

Not only does she get put on diaper duty (gag), but there’s also Dr. Mike’s cute research assistant to contend with. The only thing more embarrassing than her trying to plant one on him hours after they meet is knowing he’ll be a witness to her family’s dysfunction all. summer. long.

So when Emma meets a mysterious girl who happens to be a Druid, the summer suddenly promises to be far more intriguing than she expected. Powerful rituals, new friends, an intoxicating sense of freedom...and Simon, the sexy foreign stranger she was hoping for. It’s all a perfect distraction from dirty diapers and awkward family dinners.

Trouble is, intriguing doesn’t often mean simple. And Emma is about to discover just how not simple her life really is.

A Visit from Nichelle Clark of LynDee Walker’s Front Page Fatality

Today I am super excited to feature LynDee Walker and her fabulous mystery: FRONT PAGE FATALITY. This book is fun and sassy and absolutely brimming with surprising twists and turns. Here’s a bit about the book:

Crime reporter Nichelle Clarke’s days can flip from macabre to comical with a beep of her police scanner. Then an ordinary accident story turns extraordinary when evidence goes missing, a prosecutor vanishes, and a sexy Mafia boss shows up with the headline tip of a lifetime. As Nichelle gets closer to the truth, her story gets more dangerous. Armed with a notebook, a hunch, and her favorite stilettos, Nichelle races to splash these shady dealings across the front page before this deadline becomes her last.

Read below for my interview with Nichelle Clarke, protagonist of Front Page Fatality, reporter and all around fun gal. She talks about what she’s done, where she’s been, her fabulous shoes and what’s up for her next. (Could this possibly be a bit of a teaser for book 2, hmmm? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!)

Hey Nichelle! What’s happening?

Hey, Jenn! Same old, same old. One murder, three burglaries (this catburglar is driving my PD guys bonkers), and a carjacking. I didn’t even realize people did that anymore until I saw the report this morning. Apparently, this guy didn’t get the blase criminal memo.

You look a bit tired. Any big stories keeping you up late? Or maybe you had some late night Valentine’s day plans last night? *grin*

My Valentine’s Day was lovely, for the first time in a long time. I had dinner with a special guy overlooking the James. And an old friend sent me candy! I’ve eaten half my box of Godiva white chocolate truffles already.

How are things in the love life department, anyway?

Certainly not dull anymore! To the point that I actually wish it would calm down a bit. Two guys is not terrible, but two guys from such different worlds is starting to give me heartburn.

Oh and love the shoes by the way. What is your secret for always looking so good?

You know I buy most of my shoes on eBay, right? These were worn one time, and I swooped in at the last minute and snagged them for a hundred bucks. They’re Manolo! Also, thank you! I try.

So what’s up in your professional world? You seem to get the scoop on every story. How are you everywhere at once?

I’m so glad it looks that way! But Charlie Lewis over at Channel Four beats me sometimes, too. She can be a handful, but she keeps me on my toes.

What’s next on the horizon for you? Changing papers? Moving up in journalism world?

I’m happy in Richmond for now, but you never know. I’m up to my ears in drug wars and robberies, lately. I wish they’d catch this guy. Or gal. Whoever they are, they’re smart, and it’s irritating the heck out of my detectives.

How about personally? Looking to get married and settle down or still having fun?

Oh, I don’t think I’m settling down anytime soon. Sexy and exciting is not always the guy you want to bring home to mom.

Okay, quick five questions, just for giggles.

Favorite drink: Sans-alcohol: White Mocha; Alcohol: Margaritas

Most relaxing vacation spot: The beach! I love the ocean.

Dream job: Covering the White House for the Washington Post.

Favorite food: Hmmmm. Beef empanadas, or really good barbecue.

Favorite accessory: Shoes! My current favorites are these strappy aubergine Manolos that go with a surprising number of outfits.

Okay, that's all for today. Thanks Nichelle, for stopping by!

And thanks LynDee Walker.

Click here to visit LynDee's site or here to order Front Page Fatality.

LynDee Walker grew up in the land of stifling heat and amazing food most people call Texas, and wanted to be Lois Lane pretty much from the time she could say the words “press conference.” An award-winning journalist, she traded cops and deadlines for burp cloths and onesies when her oldest child was born. Writing the Headlines in Heels mysteries gives her the best of both worlds. When not writing or reading, LynDee is usually wrangling children, eating barbecue or enchiladas, or trying to walk off said barbecue and enchiladas.
